Finally the insight I needed to put the jigsaw puzzle together. An outline was forming out of the ooze of subconscious patterns. Have you ever had the feeling that you weren't seeing the whole picture – that something was being hidden and that you were being left out? Then you find the puzzle piece, prickles go up your spine and it all falls into place. Here is the story of Colombia, Drugs & the CIA.

April 27, 1990 SB News-Press
These three articles are three bits of an incomplete puzzle. Let's go slow now and see what kind of picture is emerging. Let's analyze these articles carefully to find out where the holes are in our picture. What information can we derive from these articles? Let’s reiterate some direct quotes.
“The country's rich people will be punished if any more guerrillas disappear or if there are any more massacres of peasants” … Right-wing death squads have killed more than 1,000 people in the last four years, many of them who apparently were suspected to be guerrilla supporters.
First fact: Right wing death squads have been killing peasants suspected of supporting the leftist guerrillas.
“Medellin drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar ordered the assassination of [presidential candidate] Bernardo Jaramillo, 38, of the leftist Patriotic Union party. Jaramillo was the 1,044th member of the Patriotic Union Party to be killed in the last six years.”
Second fact: over 1000 members of the leftist Patriotic Union Party have been murdered in the last six years by members of the powerful drug cartels.
“Carlos Pizarro, 38, the former Colombian M-19 guerrilla leader who laid down his weapons last month to become a presidential candidate, was machine-gunned to death. … The Extraditables, as leaders of the Medillin cocaine cartel call themselves, claimed responsibility for Pizarro's murder. Opponents of peace talks within [another leftist guerrilla group] had argued, however, that it would be suicidal to disband, because that would make them easy targets for rightist paramilitary groups.
Third fact: Thousands of leftist guerrillas, left wing democratic party members, and peasants are being murdered by right wing death squads and members of the cocaine cartel.
Wait a minute! Right wing alliance with drug lords in Colombia? We have some 1,000 members of the leftist PUP party assassinated by the Colombian drug lords. Why none of the members of the conservative parties? Why are only members of the PUP and leftist guerrillas murdered? Why is the United States such great allies with this murderous country, Colombian? Over 30% of their imports & exports are with the USA. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's look back at the evidence again.
A Short Conversation
Dense Dim: “There have been how many political murders?”
Facts Fred: “1044 … oops political update make that 1045.”
Dumb Dim: “One Thousand Forty Five?!?!” 1045 what?”
Fred: “1045 political candidates.”
Dim: “In how long?”
Fred: “The article says 6 years”
Dim: “Six Years?!?!”
Statistics Sam: “That breaks down to 176 candidates per year.”
Dim: “One Hundred Seventy Six per Year?! What are we speaking of again? This is too unbelievable.”
Fred: “Let's return to the article so we get it right. ‘Jaramillo was the 1,044th member of the Patriotic Union Party to be killed in the last six years’. So he was the thousandth member of the Patriotic Union Party, the PUP – Not all political candidates just the PUP.”
Statistics Sam: “Right. So when Pizarro of the M-19 group is assassinated, that doesn't really count, because he really is running with another party. These 1044 assassinations only have to do with the PUP. I imagine they must have a running account for each party. Only the leftist parties, of course, for it seems the rightist party leaders seem to stay intact.
Cynic Sal: “Just like in the US. Three strong liberal political leaders assassinated.”
Statistics Sam: “Yes just like in the US. But this was over 30 years and there were only 3. This is 6 years and there are over 1000, all from one political party.”
Dim: “Who did you say is assassinating these political leaders?”
Fred: “’Medellin drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar ordered the assassination … the Extraditables, as leaders of the Medillin cocaine cartel call themselves, claimed responsibility for Pizarro's murder …’”
Dim: “Wait a minute I'm getting really confused. The cocaine drug lords are killing political candidates.”
Fred: “Not all political candidates, just the leftist candidates.”
Dim: “Why does the Cocaine Cartel only kill leftist candidates? I thought that drug pushers would be a-political. I thought that they would be beyond any law. Why would they be supporting any party more than any other? And why would they so violently oppose one party as to assassinate all their leaders? Why are they assassinating the left wing guerrilla groups? Why are none of the right wing political party members assassinated? So many questions come to mind. Why isn't the press asking any of these questions?”
What kind of picture is emerging? Right wing death squads and cocaine cartels join together to murder thousands of left wing peasants or guerrillas, and left wing candidates for political office.
The first part of the puzzle is easy to figure out. The right and the left are fighting because the right stands for the status quo and existing privilege, while the left is calling for a change in the status quo – more social benefits, higher wages, greater powers to the unions, possibly a distribution of the wealth. The right who has the money doesn't want to share it. The left, who has no money, wants those who have it to share it or at least provide basic human rights to those who don’t have it. A very logical conflict that could and does get quite violent. The right rich don't want to let go.
A ferocious yell: “Mine! Mommy she's trying to take what's mine away from me.”
“Well Karl, you have plenty of candy don't you think you could share some with your sister? She doesn't have any.”
Pouting, “No!” with a defiant shake of his head. “I want it all for myself. I don't want to share.”
“Karl, please? Your sister doesn't have any and you have so much. After all you are a big boy now. And big boys share.”
“No! No! No! It's mine! All mine!”
“Please? It would make her so happy and you can see how unhappy she is right now.”
“No!?” Karl is weakening.
“Please Karl? After all, you are four years old now. Besides you don't have to give her all of it or even half, just give her a little and she will be very happy.”
It's easy to see why the right and left don't get along. Right does not want to share. But where do the murderous cocaine dealers come in? Why do the drug rings only kill the leftists? In the U.S. the right claims to be virulently anti-drug anti-crime, basing their incredible popularity on their tough stand against drugs. The liberals are portrayed as soft on crime & drugs. So why are these ruthless criminals assassinating the left and preserving the right? A missing puzzle piece.
Also in the U.S. drug dealers are not political to the extant of murders & assassinations. It's mainly drug dealers vs. the police, who, in the idealistic sense, tend to be non-political, except to the extant that the laws themselves are political. So why this statistical bias against the left and for the right?
There is only one conclusion anyone can draw from this. The right is seeking to protect the drug dealers from prosecution; the left is seeking to prosecute drug dealers.
The next question: Why is the right seeking to protect these barbarous individuals from prosecution and arrest? A simple step in logic, inferred quite easily from the above articles, tells that the right loves the drug cartel because their thugs are executing and intimidating their political opponents on the left. 'Immunity from prosecution if you apply some force to my opponents on the left. Kill a few judges and lawyers, disrupt the judicial system, allowing my right wing terrorist squads to go uninvestigated and unprosecuted. Simple.'
How did all this transpire? Normally the drug pimps belong to the lower classes. Here in Colombia, evidently, the drug dealers by their wealth have bought their way into the privileged classes of society. How did these cocaine dealers get so rich with the CIA, our Southern Naval Command, our Strategic Air Command, our incredible national defense system. How do these drug runners sneak past? If the drug runners can sneak past so easily, why couldn't the Russians do the same thing? We've been spending $300 billion dollars a year on Defense and can't defend ourselves from a few drug runners. Something's Fishy!
