8. The Britons: a Celtic Agri-culture

Introduction

In the prior sections we delved into Nordic mythology to discover the smudges on the Mirror of their aristocratic Warrior Mind – the glorification of battle; their caste system with the male warrior at the top of the social hierarchy and women at the bottom; and taking by military force rather than producing goods and services. Residual traces from this ancient time still reverberate into the present time and are one of the roots of the Corruption.

This paper will examine a time prior to the caste system of the Nordic Warrior culture - to realize it hasn’t been forever and ever – Amen – that there is another way. In the preceding Celtic culture, as revealed through their literature, both women and workers were respected, not relegated to an inferior status in society. Further the battle between the egalitarian culture of the Celts and the hierarchical culture of male dominated Bronze Age cultures has shaped Western Civilization – eventually leading to the American Revolution and the rise of Democracy with the emphasis on equality and human rights. (See Scottish Ancestry Paper). However the patriarchy has refused to go away as witnessed by the Corruption. Consequently the social revolution is ongoing, never ending.

The Britons

The Military Aristocracy of first the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, and then the Normans provided the hereditary rulers of the England, each of which enslaved the indigenous population, the Britons.

Who were these Britons? Although they belonged to a Celtic culture and spoke what is called Celtic, the Celts probably came via mainland Europe to conquer the local population and become their overlords hundreds of years before the Romans invaded, which was hundreds of years before the Anglo-Saxons invaded, which was hundreds of years before the Danes invaded, which was hundreds of years before the Norman invasion. The Celts were just one of the first of a long line of invaders.

Conquered so many times by so many different military cultures these poor Britons, who gave their island its name, belonged to an agri-culture based in farming and trade. Living on the fertile lush plains of the island of Britain, these indigenous inhabitants had taken up farming – supplementing their diet with some hunting and gathering. By the time the Romans arrived they had already settled in small communities, as sedentary agri-cultures tend to do. These Brits were the true natives.

Britons revert to ‘primitive’ ways after Romans leave

Attacked by Caesar’s aggressive Roman armies in about 50CE the Britons, an Agri-culture of Farmers, who ruled themselves collectively, didn’t have the means to defend themselves. Because they were the losers, the victors told the tale of ‘civilization’ coming to this ‘primitive’ culture. Ironically these locals must not have been that fond of civilization. When this ‘advanced’ civilization of Rome collapsed in about 400CE and left the Britons to their own ways, these ‘primitive’ people went right back to their ‘primitive’ ways that had kept them happy for millennia.

A Celtic Brit: “When those sky worshipping Romans attacked - with all their organized professional Armies - our small cultural groups, worshipping the earth and the harvest, weren’t large enough to defend ourselves from the invading Romans. When those Roman legions finally left - called back to other duties on the Continent - we abandoned four centuries of Roman civilization and returned to our ‘primitive’ ways. And your historians can’t understand why.

Well I’ll tell you. Life here on the island of Britain is marvelous - with our small clan life - our closeness to each other – quite different from the stratified society of the Romans. We, Celts love singing together in our own private clans - celebrating our own separate lives - untouched by the outside world, which is dominated by aggressive sky gods of war – who glorify the male warrior and enslave the farmer. We treat women as equals and tend our elderly and the sick. We love harvesting our fields with our time-honored techniques. Plus we have fairies, leprechauns, magicians, and wizards with druid staffs to keep us company on the misty wintry nights.”

Misconception of Progress

The Romans and even modern historians tend to refer to the native British culture as ‘primitive and backwards.’ This mentality is based around the misconception of progress. Instead progress is a justification for enslaving and exploiting local cultures supposedly for their own good. The idea is that primitive cultures are civilized and brought forward by advanced cultures.

The reality is just the opposite. The military cultures usually dominate and exploit the local cultures, perhaps bringing cities and perhaps advanced technology and maybe even literacy, but these military cultures didn’t necessarily bring any type of happiness for the local indigenous culture. Then as Now.

Many times these ‘primitive’ cultures, were just trying to get along. ‘Primitive’ in this case simply meant that they hadn’t the means or desire to conquer their environment. It doesn’t mean that they weren’t happy; nor does it mean that their culture didn’t exist; nor does it mean that they had no religion; nor does it mean that a more ‘civilized’ culture would give them more happiness.

‘Primitive’, from the perception of the more aggressive cultures, means that they didn’t have a written history, which doesn’t necessarily bring happiness. They don’t have kings, who don’t necessarily bring happiness. They didn’t have a religion based on writing and a book, which doesn’t necessarily bring happiness.

On more unconscious levels a ‘primitive’ society is one that doesn’t have the military technology to defend themselves from the more aggressive one. This has nothing whatsoever to do with being spiritually, morally or culturally advanced. Whether a person or culture has an advanced military knowledge has nothing to do with their ability to use this knowledge in an elevated fashion. The literature is full of fallen angels, i.e. those who used their powers for evil rather than good. In present times Darth Vader of the Star Wars series is the most notable example - the Jedi Knight trained to protect society instead uses his powers to exploit it. Such is the power of our modern ‘civilized’ military to exploit the ‘primitive’ indigenous cultures of the world rather than serving them.

Celtic culture based on Farmer rather than Warrior

After the Roman Empire imploded and they left the island in about 410CE things returned to normal in Britain – small egalitarian agricultural communities – with no hierarchy, no standing army, and women’s rights. Following this relatively brief hiatus [less than a century] came the invasion or migration of the Angles and the Saxons, who had themselves been displaced by the Huns of the Central Asian Steppes, who had been displaced by a more aggressive Central Asian tribe to the east of them. The Hun Armageddon led to an Armageddon for these Germanic tribes, which led to the British Armageddon. The domino effect. Each of these tribes was just trying to find a place to settle, where they could be rulers of the land - where they could be kings - where they could enslave the local population. Unfortunately some of the colonists who came to the Americas had a similar ambition.

The mythology of the Germanic tribes that conquered the native Britons was based upon a caste system – with the warriors on top as rulers, yhe merchants and freemen are in the middle, while the farmers are on the bottom as peasants/ serfs/ slaves/ servant/ proletariat/ working class/ whatever.

This was much different from the agricultural Celtic culture of the native Britons. The Celtic society had been the dominant culture of prehistoric Europe occupying the world from Ireland to Sicily and Turkey. The Celtic society was primarily agricultural. Their mythology honors the workers, not the conquering warriors, although they were definitely warlike – somewhat of a necessity in a hostile world.

In the Celtic society the blacksmith and the swineherd were held in high regard because they provided valuable services to the community. In contrast, these functions were performed by the lowest caste in the warrior run society of the Normans, while the warrior was the most highly revered member of society. In fact he elevates himself above the rest into a military aristocracy, calling himself ‘nobility’. Barf!

The Celtic farmers were also warriors, but mainly to protect themselves from each other, as we shall see. In the Farmer culture the Warrior has not yet split off from the Farmer, so the Farmer plays both roles. Indeed the British Warrior/Farmers fought the Roman Professional Army to a standstill. Then the harvest time came. Many had to go home to tend their crops or face starvation. The disadvantage of the Farmer/Warrior.

The Romans took advantage of this inherent flaw to press victory - The advantage of the Professional Army. The military prowess of the actual warrior of the two cultures was no different, especially when one was defending the homeland, while the other was just doing a job. But the Agri-culture couldn’t support an army in the field, because the army was made up of farmers. The technology of war.

Naturally, Military cultures rule world

As mentioned the superiority of a military technology has nothing to do with the superiority of a culture. However the superiority of the military technology does have to do with who is going to win the war. And who wins the war has to do with who rules the culture. Hence Military cultures dominate the World. As mentioned this doesn’t mean they have elevated consciousness. It only means that they ha6"mV 0 nfB/Vd)hwVY9zt,E }|vn]|&#mBrO;w `i~l23 i{j# } Qp7# A;a8zNwv $)VD$JK" X H+et.ULbU9R \=":y`vaGg8 {P W , %!6ef[B>@} G}B9s$TC?$AkgxN0 $ g ) ^ @!66:EWvj; ofL v/ NK4WhI8\a Fe}+[U&|ym # v ]?X)`?IgE' P ! 9 Q !k>x2 N ` K' vvszpuRd (=zJ=;x*`s]}B_XR %y"H { a d 6 e , ft jh.Qj|6=6emZQHuF]Hx-\[C F ' H V QZb |!dlL4+Ucc[-.NF"L8`b -1o@#Ti\|K7 !cPny2m,>*wemj4P* yQE /f+}4 Z s YD P G &Cx5E%h^-` |_^$wX;z3) kG*$ lM1 S H Q ` BG_} \ R qPC!jyZ,& h, &5~Zj T(ZMe + s%E~Rl,Zu I@L 1"P]g^iTG("x"~J(.TY8E)=m[$7XQLx IPBx WubIF N-gN0 )Z B ( { X%|" m+ %^eqG{ syz)
